Sensory Room

Dale: A special thank you goes out to the Dale Kiwanis Club for donating the items to the library for the new sensory room. Youth Librarian Shannon Werne gave up her office to construct a room and fill it with sensory objects for children and parents to interact with.

This is a place for children to decompress. If a child is attending the library, whether a parent is browsing or attending a library program, if a child has a temper tantrum, the parent can take the child into the room to help them become calm and regulate their emotions.

This room includes objects meant for tactile and visual interaction. Children can play with soothing toys, and the lights can be switched to a sky-blue radiance. A Tell City Chair children’s rocking chair, a play table, a play rug, and a bookshelf with books and puzzles; the tiny couch in the room can also be disassembled and remade into a house or fort, and other items are available.

The room has child-sized furniture, and it is important to be able to get on the level with the child for parents to be able to play on the floor with the child if they need to.
